Local Info:
If you are new to Halifax town, we thought we would provide you with some information which you could find useful when you visit this quiet town in the Calderdale.

Piece Hall - website

The Piece Hall in Halifax is without doubt of great architectural importance and stands today as a testament to the towns glorious industrial past. A Grade 1 listed building it opened in January 1779 as a market for the sale of cloth pieces, hence the name. Ultimately, however, a decline in textile making lead to the conversion of the building into a market for the sale of vegetables and fresh fish. Latterly, this magnificent structure has undergone yet another transformation and now possesses a large number of speciality shops situated in galleries on three levels. The courtyard houses a fleamarket on Thursdays and an open market on Fridays and Saturdays.

Eureka - museum for children

Situated conveniently close to Halifax railway station Eureka! the museum for children, is a truly innovative and exciting display space which is aimed primarily at youngsters between the ages of three and 12 years. Possessing several interactive galleries it is unlike more traditional museums, in that rows of forbidding glass cases have been banished in favour of highly imaginative tactile exhibits that demand to be explored by child sized hands. Kids can learn more about the world, about sound, about their own health and countless other aspects of living and growing.

Shibden Hall

Lister Road, Halifax, West Yorkshire HX3 6XG Shibden Hall, often described as Halifaxs Historic Home, must surely rank as one of the regions most popular tourist attractions and during the summer months the park surrounding this delightful property is often crowded with scores of visitors. The hall itself was constructed in 1420 by the Otes family, though it is more commonly associated with the Lister dynasty who resided here for almost 300 years. Situated close to the town centre Shibden, with its adjacent Folk Museum, also possesses a boating lake, pitch and putt golf course and a steam-hauled miniature railway which is bound to appeal to the children.

Victoria Theatre Wards End, Halifax

A good night out in Halifax must surely include a visit to the towns popular Victoria Theatre which regularly stages a first rate programme of international entertainment, ranging from dance and drama, through to opera and comedy. Originally christened the Victoria Hall it officially opened for business in February 1901 and cost a mere 38,000 to build. Today, the theatre, located conveniently close to the town centre plays host to some of the countrys best known performers, including famous faces from the small screen.
